Student Walk-In Hours
Students are encouraged to use the Language Space individually or as groups without prior reservations. Equipment such as Mac or PC laptops, and headsets, as well as large screens and collaborative tables are available for in-situ loan or use with your valid RedID card.
Because student walk-in hours change weekly, we recommend checking the schedule below before visiting us. If you would like to secure a time for an upcoming date, please request a reservation.
Book the Language Space
SDSU language faculty, staff, and students are welcome to request the use of our spaces by completing our reservation request form. All requests are subject to availability and must be made at least five days in advance. To best accommodate your class or event, our request form will ask for additional information on how you plan to use the space and regarding your tech needs.
Before making your request, please check the Language Space's availability, and carefully read the sections below.
Use Policies & Guidelines
- SDSU language and linguistics faculty, instructors, and graduate teaching assistants.
- CAL and language program academic coordinators, on behalf of their program or department.
- Faculty, instructors, lecturers and teaching assistants in the College of Arts & Letters and the Digital Humanities.
- SDSU graduate and undergraduate students are also welcome to book the Language Space for special activities related to language learning, or for club and organization meetings and events.
Each semester, the Language Space accepts reservations in two stages:
(1) Language department chairs and coordinators will schedule courses in the Language Space one year in advance (in March for Spring of the following year, and in October for Fall of the following year).
(2) Once courses have been scheduled by language department chairs and coordinators, faculty, staff, and student groups are welcome to make their reservation requests for the upcoming semester.
If you would like to teach in the Language Space for the entire duration of the semester (up to half of your class sessions each week), or have done this in the past and would like to continue, please contact your language department chair or coordinator.
If your department or program has placed your course in the Language Space, please contact our Learning Technologies Coordinator, Mari Ocando Finol at [email protected].
For all other requests including reservations for selected class sessions and events, reservation requests will be taken on a first-come, first-served basis, in accordance with the following priorities:
- Selected class sessions that prioritize technology mediated language teaching during their time in the Language Space.
- Workshops or training sessions that advanced the use of technology mediated language teaching. Selected class sessions that prioritize collaborative work, student-led and student-centered language teaching practices.
- Selected class sessions in which a new instructor will explore the resources and technologies available in the Language Space.
- Selected class sessions that will use technology for assessment/testing.
- Courses whose current/prospective enrollment will maximize the seating capacity of the requested room.
*If conflicts in priority arise, groups that maximize the Language Space’s seating capacity will be prioritized.
- The reservation holder must be present during the entire scheduled time and is responsible for ensuring all participants follow use guidelines.
- All reservation holders must complete a walk-through of the Language Space before their first use. This includes all new reservation holders, as well as any regular reservation holders when significant hardware/software updates have been made to a room.
- No food or drinks are allowed in the Language Space (close-lid water bottles are okay and should remain on the floor).
- Only LARC staff are able to make software/hardware or furniture changes.
- Electronic doors must remain closed at all times. Please avoid propping doors open.
- Resources available in the Language Space should remain in the space at all times, including devices and their peripherals.
