Lab Usage:
- The LARC Multimedia labs are for the use of faculty, staff,
and students in the College of Arts and Letter’s world languages
programs ONLY. This is not an open lab.
- Facilities may be reserved for special use by foreign languages
faculty or by CAL administration.
- Non-CAL faculty interested in using the labs must discuss this
with the Lab Director and receive approval from the Director of
LARC.
Internet Access:
Both the PC and MAC wing of the labs are equipped with high speed
Internet on all lab computers as well as wireless access. Log in
instructions are posted in each lab.
Saving and Storing Materials on LARC Computers:
Students can save data or other materials to the hard drive of the
student-use computers. Such materials will be saved to a temporary
storage folder, and subject to erasure; they cannot be protected from
alteration by other students. Students and faculty cannot use their
own applications software on the lab computers. Any applications or
materials stored on a LARC computer will be automatically deleted
on shutoff.
Secure storage is available through the use of:
- Floppy disc
- Writable CD-ROM
- USB drive
- A portable zip drive is available for checkout at the front
desk upon request
Printing:
The LARC lab has the SDSU pay-per-print system
installed which allows you to print out your work at the cost of
10 cents per page. Students may add money to their Red IDs at the
AztecCard office or at a Dart station.
Lab Reservation Requests:
- Reservations can be made by filling out the online Request form
(see link on left).
- The Lab Director will respond to all requests within 24 hours.
- For special events lasting four hours or less, please allow
a minimum of seven days advance request.
- For special events lasting longer than four hours, or for reserving
the Center’s facilities for a series of events, please allow
a minimum of one month.
- For the most part, lab requests for single class session use,
will be scheduled for BA 41, the MAC lab.
These rooms may be reserved for special events during working
hours, and also in evenings and on weekends. However the faculty
member must be present the entire time, and go through a brief training
on the use of the facilities. Technical support will not be available
for such “off hours” events.
Software Installation Requests:
Lab Computers
All software on lab computers will be updated during the summer
and winter breaks. If faculty would like to have additional software
programs installed on the computers, please contact the lab director
as soon as possible. It is difficult and disruptive to the students
to adjust the computers during the semester, so all requests must
be received in advance of the semester they are to be used. Additionally,
the lab director will contact all faculty with a reminder of this
process before upgrades begin each semester.
Instructor Station
In order to ensure conformity with copyright law, software installations
must be done by LARC technical personnel. Requests to have materials
stored or software installed must be made at least one week in
advance. The instructor must test the system with their materials
before the actual class time, giving sufficient time to allow
modification of computer if necessary. This will usually be at
least 24 hours.
Training for Faculty
For faculty training on the use of lab equipment such as the instructor’s
stations in the Mac or PC wings of the lab, or the Tandberg audio
console, please contact the lab director at 619-594-5445 |
